Hockey

The problem with the Olympics being in Vancouver is that on occasion the hockey games start ridiculously late. So, you’re reading this Saturday morning. But, I’m writing it Friday evening, at around 7:30 et. Two hours before Canada plays Slovakia to see who goes to the Gold Medal game. When you’re reading this, I may be incredibly excited. We might have a date with Team USA Sunday afternoon. Or, we may have a date with Finland today for the bronze medal match. I wouldn’t be so excited about that. I mean, it’d be better than 2006 when we didn’t medal… and in fact ended up 7th. But, it’d be a real bummer to not at least have a place in the gold medal game.

Of course, if Team USA comes out playing like they did against Finland, it might not matter. They were good. They looked like we did against Russia. They scored a lot.

But, however this ends up, whether Canada wins a gold medal or ends up ranked 4th, I know where my allegiance is. Go Canada!

  1. Yep, no “fair weather friends” in our family- Canadian or US. Of course we haven’t had that much fair weather anyway. Perhaps they could have shifted from Vancouver to southern WV. They could have used your driveway for the luge run.
If you deserted your country, I’d be very disappointed. I think you’ll be in the winner’s circle at the end, but must cheer for Uncle Sam myself. May the best team lose.

  2. Not to worry, Andrew; as I’m sure you know by now, we won our game last night (although Slovakia came close to tying it at the end). So Canada vs. U.S. it will be! And hopefully we will play like we did against Russia, not like we did last night.

  3. I love the image of a West Virginian luge run, but has it truly been that bad? What are you dealing with this weekend?

  4. Hey Aunt Deb,

it hasn’t been as bad as expected… probably only 7 inches or so, so far, based on what I see out my back window. Enough to make life difficult until they get around to plow and salt, but not enough to knock the power out. At last check, they were calling for the potential of as much as another 4-8 inches, but I’m skeptical.
