Success v Happiness

Success is getting what you want, Happiness is liking what you get.

True or false? I’m not sure, particularly about the first half of the quote. Discuss.

  1. The Hermit Editor says:

Disagree completely, of course. :-) What I want is so very often not what I need! And its corollary, “Failure is not getting what you want,” seems like something an immature and unwise person would believe. God teaches us through such things, and so we grow and learn to depend on Him in all circumstances, which is definitely not failure!

Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me (Philippians 4:11-13).

  2. Aunt Deb says:

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

The only verse that contains the actual word success.

    Love ya,
    Deb

  3. Llama Momma says:

I disagree with the first and agree with the second.

Being happy, for me, is linked with being content. If I can find contentment in the midst of my circumstances, I can be happy.

Success…now that’s another story! Who defines it? How do we know when we’ve achieved it? In my profession (motherhood), success is elusive. Simply being faithful to God’s calling each day is, in my book, success.
