That was quite the thunderstorm that just blew through. Not bad from a rain / wind perspective, but visually stunning, impressively loud, and fun to stand on the porch and watch.
God still paints the night sky better than anyone in the world.

On Ads
I’ve been trying to figure out how I should feel about advertising online. For a long time, I’ve used the AdBlockPlus plugin in my web browser so that I experience the internet without advertising. And I like that.
But, I also want people who provide me with good content or a good service to get paid. I have no qualms about that. The service they’re providing is worth something; I should either be paying for it with my money or paying for it with my attention. I don’t have a whole lot of extra cash, so paying with my attention makes sense to me.
All that to say, a week and a half ago, I turned off Adblock. And the internet is a terrible place with advertising. You can’t find your content on some sites for the sea of ads. They blink, they pop-under, they take your browser captive.
I really don’t like it.
The question I have now is do I go back to my ad blocking ways? (Perhaps while being more careful to create exceptions for sites that I particularly wish to support.) Or do I stop frequenting sites that annoy me with advertising. I think the latter is the legitimate way to do it. One thing is for sure, I’m not going to keep subjecting myself to all of these ads.
On Seven
They say that 7 years has something to do with starting to get bored in a marriage. I’m glad to confess that I have no such sentiments. I find with each year that things get sweeter, my relationship with my wife gets better, and I get happier in marriage.
It’s not perfect. It’s not easy. But it is very good. I’m glad.
Beautiful
I’m the kind of person who gets bothered by fingerprints and smudges on computer screens and televisions and the like. It’s just one of those things.
But I find myself less bothered by them on windows. I think it’s because when the hand print is on a window, I know it’s because one of my children was excited about something happening outside. They observed something beautiful or fun or exciting, and they wanted to see it better, to get closer.
I love that. So, kids, go ahead and smudge the windows. We’ll clean them later.
A cool little tool
I’ve read this article about Jerry Seinfeld’s productivity secret several times. It makes a lot of sense to me. And I’ve wanted to do it without buying a calendar.
Along came Don’t Break the Chain. It’s a cool little web app that lets you define your chains, which days they ought to be active on, and then lets you click them once you’ve completed the task. And it even installs as a cool little extension for Chrome so that you can click it right from the browser toolbar.
Check it out. Start a chain… and then, don’t break it.
